With the support of the Advisory Board’s Academic Subcommittee, Sacred Heart launched its Saturday School tutoring program for all sixth grade students in the fall of 2012. Funded by the proceeds from the 2012 Yankees Benefit, the program is free for participants.
The tutoring program supports students who are struggling in math or ELA and also challenges students who are more successful to stay on top of their studies and push themselves to a higher level. The goal is to support sixth graders academically as they transition to the Common Core curriculum and to prepare them for New York State testing in the spring.
Despite the early wake up, the sixth graders are happy for the help. Sixth grader Bianca D. said tutoring is beneficial because, “tutors go step-by-step through the work and make it easy to understand. If there are any questions, you can ask in the end, and the tutors go over it.”
Sacred Heart thanks those supporting the program, especially the Advisory Board and attendees of the 2012 Yankees Benefit.
