Student Life

Sacred Heart School collaborates with various partners to offer robust programs that augment the curriculum and enhance students’ lives.

Programs support dance, music and fine arts and broaden student awareness of  the rich and often unexplored culture of their city.

  • Dancing Classrooms

Twice a week, professional dance instructors teach students the intricate steps of merengue, tango, salsa, foxtrot, rumba and swing. The class develops the participants’ communication, cooperation, and team-building skills while increasing their self-confidence.

  • Urban Voices

A Teaching Artist visits Sacred Heart School on a weekly basis to enhance musical understanding.  Founded by the Metropolitan Opera Guild, Urban Voices teaches students how to sing and perform through a varied music curriculum.

  • New York Philharmonic School Partnership Program

Philharmonic Teaching Artists work with grades 3, 4 and 5 to build students' musical understanding through the symphonic experience

  • Creative Classrooms Visual Arts Program
The Creative Classrooms Visual Arts Program (CCVAP) is a comprehensive, curriculum-integrated visual arts program for all grades.
  • Education Through Music

Our younger students participate in the “Music and Movement” program that teaches rhythm and coordination through song and dance.  Students use props to accompany their music and so receive a fully interactive experience.

  • Band Lessons

Students have the option to pick out an instrument and rehearse weekly with a band instructor. Participants learn how to read notes and play their instrument individually while also working together. At the end of the school year, the band puts on a performance for parents.

  • Violin

After receiving a donation of violins in the spring of 2013, Sacred Heart is thrilled to begin a violin program in the 2013-2014 school year.  This program will add depth to the school’s existing arts program, and offer students a chance to explore the discipline and reward that come with playing a musical instrument.
