A Glimpse at Life after Sacred Heart

Parents and students get their questions answered by a Marymount School representative.

September 25, 2014

On Thursday, September 25th, 7th and 8th grade students from Sacred Heart and the neighborhood middle schools attended the High School Fair in the Sacred Heart auditorium. Representatives set up tables full of posters, flyers, and brochures—all in an effort to introduce students to potential high schools. Schools in attendance included Cardinal Spellman, St. Jean Baptiste, Cardinal Hayes, and St. Raymond. Many schools also brought student representatives who spoke to middle school students about their current experiences. Overall, the fair was able to give Sacred Heart students a glimpse at what to expect after graduation next June.

Sacred Heart 8th grader, Christine Llano, shared her thoughts during the fair. When asked what high school she was looking forward to applying to, she responded, “Marymount because I’ve heard good things from Ms. Alexis [Sacred Heart’s Secondary School Advisor]. It’ll have rigorous studies and it’ll be challenging. I want a challenge!”

Sacred Heart is lucky enough to have Ms. Alexis as part of the middle school team to provide extra guidance and support for all middle school students as they prepare for high school. Through one-on-one student meetings to discuss high school options and her relationships with high schools, Ms. Alexis works to make the middle school to high school transition period as seamless as possible. When asked for her best advice on navigating high school admissions, Ms. Alexis responded, “Keep your grades up, study for your high school entrance exam, and research and visit different high school options.”

Thank you to Ms. Alexis for all the planning and hard work that made the fair such a great success!
