Eighth Graders Say Goodbye

June 14, 2013

This year has flown by for Sacred Heart’s Class of 2013. Since September, students have faced the challenge of juggling high school applications and state test preparation in addition to regular schoolwork. The eighth graders rose to the occasion and maintained focus until the end of the school year.

All of their hard work has paid off, with the 8th grade class boasting impressive accomplishments including 61 students accepted into the Catholic high school of their choice. Sacred Heart students will be continuing on in their education at many prestigious high schools including:

All Hallows High School

Cathedral High School

Preston High School

St. Jean Baptiste

To celebrate their achievements through the years, 8th graders enjoyed several special activities as graduation approached. In December, students visited Radio City to see the Rockettes perform. For many, this was the first visit to Radio City and it did not disappoint. Students also took a trip to the New York Historical Society for Social Studies class. The most popular event among students was the scenic boat cruise around Manhattan, which took place on the evening of May 24th.

When graduation day arrived on June 14th, students said emotional goodbyes to teachers and friends. Valedictorian Jennifer A. spoke fondly about the past and described her excitement for the future. For Franchesca M., who has been at Sacred Heart since she was a 4 year old in Pre-Kindergarten, leaving the Sacred Heart family was bittersweet. “It’s sad because I’ve been here for so long but I know I can always come back and see my school.”

Though we will miss our 67 graduates, we are confident these students will achieve success in high school and beyond.
