Annual Yankees Benefit 2013!

June 4, 2013

The sun was shining on Highbridge for Sacred Heart’s 8th annual Yankees Benefit. Nearly 90 attendees enjoyed an evening of food, fun and baseball.

Prior to the game, Advisory Board members and their guests met on the Rectory patio to enjoy a barbecue dinner. Attendees mingled with Sacred Heart faculty and students, whose tickets were sponsored by generous supporters.

After feasting on the burgers and hot dogs from Father & Sons Barbecue and cupcakes donated by Baked by Melissa, the group progressed to Yankee Stadium to see the Yankees take on the Indians. Students were delighted to be able to see the Yankees in action. Though Sacred Heart is located only seven blocks from the Yankee Stadium, few students can afford to see a game.

Students kept the energy level high throughout the close game. The stadium camera crew took notice in the last inning and zoomed in on the students for recognition on the jumbotron. Eighth grader Christopher M. described the memorable night, saying, “It was really fun to go to the game with my friends before we graduate. And the whole stadium saw us on the screen during the game!”

This year’s event was the most successful yet, raising over $16,500 that will be used to support tutoring and test preparation programs at Sacred Heart. Thank you to all Advisory Board members and guests who helped to make the event a success. A special thank you goes out to Ted Burdick for his continued support of Sacred Heart and to Tom Hamilton for sponsoring 20 student tickets.
